Background Information
STRO-1, first identified in 1991, is a well-known cell surface marker to identify and isolate mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), also known as mesenchymal precursor cells (MPCs). STRO-1 antigen is present on fibroblast colony-forming unit (CFU-F) cells in adult human BM and potentially defines a MSC precursor subpopulation. Western blot analysis identifies Stro-1 as a 75kd protein in endothelial cells (PMID: 21903091, 2070060).
