Background Information
Interleukin-24 (IL-24) , also known as Melanoma Differentiation-Associated gene 7 (mda-7) , is a protein that belongs to the IL-10 family of cytokines. It was initially discovered in 1995 by researchers Paul B. Fisher and colleagues as a gene that is induced during the terminal differentiation of melanoma cells. Unlike many other cytokines, IL-24 is secreted primarily by activated monocytes, macrophages, and T helper 2 (Th2) cells.
