Background Information
The CIB (calcium and integrin binding) protein family has 4 members (CIB1-CIB4), each composed of 4 EF-hand Ca2+-binding motifs (PMID: 27771768). CIB2 is broadly expressed in a variety of tissues, which plays a role in sensory neurons of the ear and eye involved in the regulation of Ca2+ homeostasis (PMID: 28663585; 29084757; 29255404). Mutations of CIB2 have been associated with autosomal recessive nonsyndromic deafness 48 (DFNB48), as well as syndromic deafness in Usher syndrome, type 1J (USH1J) (PMID: 23331261). The observed molecular weight of CIB2 is 39 kDa because it can form a dimer (PMID: 30174586).
