Background Information
UDP-glucuronosyltransferase 2B7 (UGT2B7), a member of the UDP-glucuronosyltransferase (UGT) superfamily, mediates phase II biotransformation. During this process, lipophilic substrates undergo glucuronidation conjugation with glucuronic acid, which enhances the aqueous solubility of resultant metabolites and accelerates their elimination via urine or bile (PMID: 10702251; 15231852; 15470161; 15472229). UGT2B7 additionally contributes to the metabolic clearance of mycophenolate, an immunosuppressive pharmaceutical agent (PMID: 15470161).
