Background Information
SVOP (Synaptic Vesicle 2-Related Protein) is an evolutionarily conserved, nonglycosylated transmembrane protein localized to synaptic vesicles and microvesicles in neurons and endocrine cells. Distantly related to SV2, it contains 12 transmembrane domains and shares homology with organic ion transporters. SVOP binds adenine nucleotides, particularly NAD, and is thought to contribute to synaptic vesicle function, though its precise physiological role remains to be fully elucidated. (PMID: 9801366)
