Background Information
ST3GAL6, also named as SIAT10, belongs to the glycosyltransferase 29 family. ST3GAL6 is involved in the synthesis of sialyl-paragloboside, which is a precursor of sialyl-Lewis X determinant. ST3GAL6 has a alpha-2,3-sialyltransferase activity toward Gal-beta1,4-GlcNAc structure on glycoproteins and glycolipids. ST3GAL6 is known to promote cell adhesion and migration of multiple myeloma cells by increasing the synthesis of selectin ligands. ST3GAL6 has 2 isoforms with the molecular mass of 25 and 38 kDa. Sometimes higher molecular weight about 50-60 kDa can also be observed, which may be a glycosylated modified variant of ST3GAL6. (PMID: 31914669, 30220088)
