SC4MOL(sterol C4-methyl oxidase-like), an intermediate enzyme in the cholesterol biosynthetic pathway, was included in the library based on its representation in a high confidence GEO transcriptional profiling dataset as a transcript that rapidly undergoes significant expression change in response to stimulation or inhibition of EGFR. Among the validated hits that increased cell killing by common EGFR antagonists, SC4MOL was consistently one of the most effective modulators. (PMID: 23125191)
