Background Information
RNF144A (Ring Finger protein 144A) as the first E3 ubiquitin ligase for cytosolic DNA-PKcs, is induced in a p53-dependent manner during DNA damage and targets cytosolic DNA-PKcs for ubiquitination and degradation. RNF144A is an RBR-containing protein, and is unstable and degraded through the proteasome-dependent pathway (PMID: 24979766). RNF144A contains an RBR domain in the N-terminus and a potential single-transmembrane (TM) domain in the C-terminus, and is distributed in both plasma membrane and the membranes of intracellular vesicles including endosomes, lysosomes, endoplasmic reticulum (ER), perinuclear vesicles, and others, which might be caused by the presence of the TM domain (PMID: 37955227).
