Background Information
IgM is one of the five major classes of antibodies (immunoglobulins) produced by the immune system. High levels of IgM may indicate an active or recent infection, or certain autoimmune diseases. Deficiency in IgM can lead to increased susceptibility to infections, particularly from bacteria and viruses.
