Background Information
Homeobox-containing genes play critical roles in regulating tissue-specific gene expression essential for tissue differentiation, as well as determining the temporal and spatial patterns of development [PMID: 7665173]. NKX2-5 encoded by homeobox-containing genes that implicated in commitment to and/or differentiation of the myocardial lineage, and acts as a transcriptional activator of ANF in cooperation with GATA4. During embryonic development, NKX2-5 plays pivotal roles in specifying cardiac progenitors, cardiac morphogenesis, cardiomyocyte differentiation and conduction system development [PMID: 22824467].
