Background Information
NCDN protein (Neurochondrin) is a highly conserved 79 kDa adaptor protein, which was first discovered in 1997 and mainly expressed in the nervous system. NCDN protein plays an important role in neuronal differentiation, formation and maintenance of dendritic spines. It is involved in the development of synapses, neuronal differentiation and signal transduction, and maintains cell polarity by regulating dendritic morphogenesis and neural signal pathway. Recent studies have found that NCDN protein is expressed not only in neurons, but also in myeloid cells (such as neutrophils), and plays a role as a negative regulator of innate immunity. Mice lacking NCDN in myeloid cells are more immune to bacterial infection because of the increased reactivity of neutrophils (PMID: 37503670). The molecular weight of NCDN is 78 kDa.
