Background
Histidine-Rich Glycoprotein (HRG or HPRG) is a highly abundant and multifunctional single-stranded plasma glycoprotein. Because of its unique molecular structure, it can bind to a variety of ligands (such as metal ions, coagulation factors, immune cell surface receptors, etc.). Genetic mutation of HRG (such as high plasma HRG level or abnormal function) is closely related to familial Thrombophilia. In addition, in patients with septicemia, the plasma HRG level usually drops sharply, which is often used as a biomarker of the severity and prognosis of the disease.
