Background Information

The MXRA8 protein (Matrix Remodeling Associated 8, also known as LIM domain protein aspirin or DRAGO) belongs to the MXRA (matrix remodeling associated) protein family. It is a type I transmembrane protein whose extracellular domain contains two immunoglobulin-like (Ig-like) domains. MXRA8 primarily serves as an entry receptor for various pathogenic alphaviruses (such as chikungunya virus and Ross River virus) by specifically binding to the E2/E1 glycoprotein complex on the viral envelope, thereby mediating viral attachment and membrane fusion.
