Background Information

MPZL2 (myelin protein zero-like 2), also named as EVA (epithelial V-like antigen) or EVA1, is a type 1 transmembrane protein of the myelin P0 protein family, containing an Ig-like V-type (immunoglobulin-like) domain and two potential glycosylation sites. MPZL2 is expressed in thymus epithelium and strongly downregulated by thymocyte developmental progression. Its capacity to mediate cell adhesion through a homophilic interaction and its selective regulation by T cell maturation might imply the participation of EVA in the earliest phases of thymus organogenesis.
