Background Information

MFI2 (Melanotransferrin/Mtf/TRMF), also known as p97 or CD228, is an iron-binding glycoprotein belonging to the transferrin family. Alternative RNA splicing yields two forms of different length transcripts, one (the longer) bound to the membrane (mMFI2) and the other (the shorter) secreted to the peripheral environment (sMFI2) such as blood and cell supernatant. MFI2 is upregulated in tumor tissues and has been identified as a serological Marker of colorectal cancer (PMID: 25216327).
