Background Information
LBP (lipopolysaccharide-binding protein) is an acute-phase protein, predominantly synthesized by hepatocytes. LBP plays an essential role in the body's innate immune response, whereby it protects against infections by recognizing and binding bacterial lipopolysaccharides to activate immune cells.
