Background Information
Potassium channel subfamily K member 5 (KCNK5, also termed TASK2) is a potassium channel mediating voltage-dependent outward-rectifying currents in response to membrane depolarization. Its voltage sensing is coupled to the potassium electrochemical gradient via an "ion flux gating" mechanism, in which gate opening is triggered by outward rather than inward ion movement (PMID: 26919430; 36063992; 9812978). Immunoblotting analysis of KCNK5 detects two protein bands at 55 kDa and 70 kDa, representing the monomeric and glycosylated forms of the KCNK5 potassium channel, respectively (PMID: 24285684; 26140335).
