Background Information
ITLN2 also named as UNQ2789 and PRO7179, may play a role in the defense system against pathogens. Intelectins (intestinal lectins) are highly conserved across chordate evolution and have been implicated in various human diseases, including Crohn's disease (CD). The human genome encodes two intelectin genes, intelectin-1 (ITLN1) and intelectin-2 (ITLN2). It is reproted that human ITLN2 is expressed in Paneth cells, where it localizes to secretory granules, and establish that ITLN2 is a highly abundant multimeric protein secreted into the lumen of the small intestine (PMID: 35182405). The calculated molecular weight of ITLN2 is 36 kDa.
