Background Information
Interleukin-24 (IL-24), also known as Melanoma Differentiation-Associated gene 7 (mda-7), is a protein that belongs to the IL-10 family of cytokines. It was initially discovered in 1995 by researchers Paul B. Fisher and colleagues as a gene that is induced during the terminal differentiation of melanoma cells. IL-24 is secreted by multiple cell types, such as immune cells (T cells, B cells, NK cells, macrophages), and non-immune cells (epithelial cells and fibroblasts).
