Product Information
KE00426 is a solid phase sandwich Enzyme Linked-Immuno-Sorbent Assay (Sandwich ELISA). The human PNMT ELISA kit is to be used to detect and quantify protein levels of endogenous human PNMT. The assay recognizes human PNMT. An antibody specific for human PNMT has been pre-coated onto the microwells. The human PNMT protein in samples is captured by the coated antibody after incubation. Following extensive washing, another horseradish peroxidase (HRP)-conjugated antibody specific for human PNMT is added to detect the captured human PNMT protein. For signal development, followed by Tetramethyl-benzidine (TMB) reagent. Solution containing sulfuric acid is used to stop color development and the color intensity which is proportional to the quantity of bound protein is measurable at 450 nm with the correction wavelength set at 630 nm.

Background Information
PNMT (Phenylethanolamine N-methyltransferase) is the final enzyme in the catecholamine synthesizing cascade that converts noradrenaline to epinephrine by transferring a methyl group from S-adenosyl-L-methionine (SAM) to norepinephrine. PNMT is primarily found in the adrenal medulla, where it is responsible for the production of epinephrine. It is also present in certain areas of the brain, such as the amygdala and retina, where it may be involved in various neurophysiological functions. Variations in the PNMT gene have been associated with Alzheimer's disease, hypertension, and other disorders.
