Background

Interleukin-12A (IL-12A), also known as p35, is a protein that plays a crucial role in the immune system. It is a subunit of the cytokine IL-12, which is a heterodimeric protein composed of two disulfide-linked subunits: IL-12A (p35) and IL-12B (p40). IL-12A is encoded by the IL12A gene located on chromosome 3 and is expressed in various cell types, including professional antigen-presenting cells such as B-cells, dendritic cells, macrophages, and granulocytes. The primary function of IL-12A is to regulate T-cell and natural killer-cell responses. It is particularly important for the production of interferon-gamma (IFN-gamma), the differentiation of T-helper 1 (Th1) cells, and serves as a link between innate resistance and adaptive immunity.
