Product Information
KE00652 is a solid phase sandwich Enzyme Linked-Immuno-Sorbent Assay (Sandwich ELISA). The human DLAT ELISA kit is to be used to detect and quantify protein levels of endogenous human DLAT. The assay recognizes human DLAT. An antibody specific for human DLAT has been pre-coated onto the microwells. The human DLAT protein in samples is captured by the coated antibody after incubation. Following extensive washing, another horseradish peroxidase (HRP)-conjugated antibody specific for human DLAT is added to detect the captured human DLAT protein. For signal development, followed by Tetramethyl-benzidine (TMB) reagent. Solution containing sulfuric acid is used to stop color development and the color intensity which is proportional to the quantity of bound protein is measurable at 450 nm with the correction wavelength set at 630 nm.

Background Information
The dihydrolipoyllysine-residue acetyltransferase (DLAT), also known as the E2 component of the pyruvate dehydrogenase complex (PDC), is a critical mitochondrial enzyme central to cellular energy metabolism. The pyruvate dehydrogenase complex plays an important role in the pathways that convert the energy from food into a form that cells can use. This complex converts a molecule called pyruvate, which is formed from the breakdown of carbohydrates, into another molecule called acetyl-CoA. The E2 enzyme performs one part of this chemical reaction. The conversion of pyruvate is essential to begin the series of chemical reactions that produces adenosine triphosphate (ATP), the cell's main energy source.
