Product Information
KE00908 is a solid phase sandwich Enzyme Linked-Immuno-Sorbent Assay (Sandwich ELISA). The human AKAP1 ELISA kit is to be used to detect and quantify protein levels of endogenous human AKAP1. The assay recognizes human AKAP1. An antibody specific for human AKAP1 has been pre-coated onto the microwells. The human AKAP1 protein in samples is captured by the coated antibody after incubation. Following extensive washing, another horseradish peroxidase (HRP)-conjugated antibody specific for human AKAP1 is added to detect the captured human AKAP1 protein. For signal development, followed by Tetramethyl-benzidine (TMB) reagent. Solution containing sulfuric acid is used to stop color development and the color intensity which is proportional to the quantity of bound protein is measurable at 450 nm with the correction wavelength set at 630 nm.

Background Information
AKAP1 (A-Kinase Anchoring Protein 1), also known as D-AKAP1 or AKAP149, is a mitochondrial and endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-anchored scaffolding protein that plays a critical role in organizing signaling complexes, particularly those involving protein kinase A (PKA). By tethering PKA and other signaling molecules to specific subcellular compartments, AKAP1 regulates essential cellular processes such as mitochondrial dynamics, apoptosis, metabolism, and oxidative stress response. AKAP1 contains a dual-specificity domain that binds both type I and type II regulatory subunits of PKA, along with additional binding sites for phosphatases, phosphodiesterases, and other kinases. Its localization at the outer mitochondrial membrane (OMM) allows it to modulate mitochondrial function, including fission/fusion balance and reactive oxygen species (ROS) management. Studies have linked AKAP1 to cardiovascular diseases, neurodegenerative disorders, and cancer, highlighting its importance in cellular homeostasis.
