Background Information
High mobility group protein B4 (HMGB4) is a new member in the family of HMGB proteins. Unlike other HMGB-proteins, it is a mammalian specific protein that has two HMGB-boxes but lacks the acidic tail. HMGB4 is strongly and preferentially expressed in the adult mouse testis and weakly in the brain, but not in many other tissues (PMID: 18987332). It binds strongly to nuclear structures, regulates chromatin and mediates differentiation of neuronal cells (PMID: 27608812).
