Background Information

GABRR1 is a member of a family of ligand-gated chloride channels that are the major inhibitory neurotransmitter receptors in the central nervous system. GABRR1 acts as a rho-1 receptor of GABA, the major inhibitory neurotransmitter in the vertebrate brain, may play a role in retinal neurotransmission. And then, GABRR1 is highly expressed in the retina and in a lesser extent in brain, lung and thymus. There are 3 isoforms for GABRR1 produced by alternative splicing, with the molecular weights of 46 kDa, 53 kDa, 56 kDa, respectively.
