Background Information
Frizzled-1 (FZD1) is a member of the Frizzled family of transmembrane receptors, which belongs to the class F of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs). In mammals, this family consists of ten isoforms (FZD1-10) (PMID: 38594145). It functions as a receptor for Wnt proteins, a family of secreted lipoglycoproteins. FZD1 is activated by specific Wnt ligands such as WNT3A, WNT3, and WNT1, but not by others like WNT4, WNT5A, or WNT7A. FZD1 regulates specific stages of adult hippocampal neurogenesis, being required for neuronal differentiation and positioning of newborn neurons into the granule cell layer, but not for morphological development of adult-born granule neurons (PMID: 26980182).
