Background Information
Fatty acyl-CoA reductase 2 (FAR2), also known as MLSTD1, belongs to the fatty acyl-CoA reductase family. FAR2 catalyzes the reduction of saturated but not unsaturated C16 or C18 fatty acyl-CoA to fatty alcohols (PMID: 24009241). FAR2 may play a role in the production of ether lipids/plasmalogens and wax monoesters which synthesis requires fatty alcohols as substrates. FAR2 has 2 isoforms with the molecular mass of 49 kDa and 59 kDa (Refer to Uniprot).
