Background Information
ERI3, officially designated as ERI1 exoribonuclease family member 3, is also known by several aliases, including enhanced RNAi three prime mRNA exonuclease homolog 3, exoribonuclease 3, PINT1, and PRNPIP (prion protein-interacting protein). As a member of the metazoan 3'hExo/ERI-1 family of 3' to 5' exonucleases, ERI3 enables RNA binding and exonuclease activity. It is predicted to be involved in the exonucleolytic trimming that generates the mature 3'-end of 5.8S rRNA from the tricistronic rRNA transcript. ERI3 overexpression promotes HCC cell proliferation, migration, and invasion and is strongly linked to a poor prognosis of the patients (PMID: 41540704).
