Background Information
Cytokeratin 24 (CK-24), also known as Keratin 24 (KRT24), is a relatively recently identified type I cytokeratin. It is encoded by the KRT24 gene located on human chromosome 17. KRT24 is strongly expressed in keratinocytes, colon, spleen, and placenta. Previous research has suggested that KRT24 potentially acts as a oncogene in the early stages of colorectal cancer.
