Background Information
CCDC86 (Coiled-coil domain-containing protein 86), also known as Cyclon (cytokine-induced protein with coiled-coil domain) ) is known for its expression in leukocytes in mice, where it regulates the immune response. Cyclon/CCDC86 regulates the apoptosis of T-cells upon activation, a process known as an activationinduced cellular death (AICD), by regulating the expression of the death receptor Fas on T-cells (PMID: 23439384). CCDC86 depletion led to a novel phenotype in which Ki-67 and nucleolin could still accumulate at the chromosome periphery but also formed abnormal cytoplasmic NDF-like foci (PMID: 36695333). The detected molecular weights (MWs) of Cyclon on SDS-PAGE (human Cyclon: 65 kDa; mouse Cyclon: 75 kDa) were higher than calculated MWs (human Cyclon: 40.2 kDa; mouse Cyclon: 46.5 kDa), suggesting possible modifications of Cyclon (PMID: 17300783).
