Background Information
Collagen Type XXVII, also named COL27A1, it is a member of the collagen fibrillar gene family . It is located in the extrcellular matrix. The calculated molecular weight of COL27A1 is 186 kDa. This antibody can recognize the 73 kDa isoform of target. The high level of Col27a1 expression in mouse cartilage suggested the possibility that Col27a1 may be regulated in cartilage by SOX9, as are Col2a1, Col11a2, Col9a1, and Col9a2 (PMID: 15922909). Expression analyses of the mouse col27a1 gene demonstrated high expression in cartilage, the eye and ear, but also in lung and colon. It is likely that the major protein product of COL27A1, proa1(XXVII), is a component of the extracellular matrices of cartilage and these other tissues. Study of this collagen should yield insights into normal chondrogenesis, and provide clues to the pathogenesis of some chondrodysplasias and disorders of other tissues in which this gene is expressed (PMID: 12714037).
