Background Information
Chymotrypsin C (chymotrypsin C) is a serine protease of digestive tract encoded by human CTRC gene. Secreted by pancreatic acinar cells, it is not only involved in the protein degradation of food, but also the "protector" of the pancreas, which can prevent the premature activation of trypsin in the pancreas by degrading trypsinogen. If the mutation of CTRC gene leads to the loss of protein's function, it will destroy the original protective degradation process of trypsinogen, and lead to the proliferation of abnormally activated trypsin in the pancreas, thus significantly increasing the risk of hereditary or idiopathic chronic pancreatitis (PMID: 35594281). The molecular weight of the protein is 30 kDa(PMID: 21828354), and there is N- glycosylation modification, and the modified molecular weight is 35kDa. The same protein may present different glycosylation forms in two species (PMID: 34118474).
