Background Information
CSGALNACT2 (Chondroitin Sulfate N-Acetylgalactosaminyltransferase 2) is a glycosyltransferase localized to the Golgi membrane that catalyzes the transfer of N-acetylgalactosamine (GalNAc) from the donor substrate UDP-GalNAc to the non-reducing end of glucuronic acid (GlcUA) on growing glycosaminoglycan chains. Increased expression of CSGALNACT2 has been observed in the arterial wall during the progression of atherosclerosis, contributing to the elongation of CS chains that may promote lipid retention and smooth muscle cell migration.
