Background Information
BNIP3 (BCL2 interacting protein 3) is a member of the Bcl-2 family that is expressed in mitochondria and induces apoptosis (PMID: 10891486). It can regulate the permeabillity state of outer mitchondrial member (OMM), this regulation is accompanied by the formation of homo- and hetero-oligomers inside the membrane. Hypoxia can lead to transcriptional activation of BNIP3 through HIF-1α (PMID: 11559532). It's calculated molecule weight is 21.5 kDa. The antibody can detect bands around 25 and 50 kDa, representing monomeric and dimeric forms, respectively (PMID: 21364626).BNIP3 is related to the occurrence and development of tumors, cardiovascular diseases, and Parkinson's diseases.
