Background Information
Ankyrin-1 (ANK1) is also named as Ankyrin-R and Erythrocyte ankyrin. The stability and shape of the erythrocyte membrane is provided by the ankyrin-1 complex (PMID:18440852). ANK1 can attache integral membrane proteins to cytoskeletal elements. And it binds to the erythrocyte membrane protein band 4.2, to Na-K ATPase, to the lymphocyte membrane protein GP85, and to the cytoskeletal proteins fodrin, tubulin, vimentin and desmin.(PMID:12456646).
