Background Information
ADAM18(Disintegrin and metalloproteinase domain-containing protein 18) is also named as TMDC3. It is a sperm surface membrane protein that may be involved in spermatogenesis and fertilization. This is a non catalytic metalloprotease-like protein. It has a tripeptide motif (ECD) within disintegrin-like domain, which could be involved in the binding to egg integrin receptor and thus could mediate sperm/egg binding. The fuli length protein has 12 glycosylation sites, a signal peptide and a propeptide.
