Background
CHI3L1 (Chitinase-3-Like Protein 11), also known as YKL-40 or HC-gp39, is a secreted glycoprotein and a member of the chitinase-like protein family. Although it lacks chitinase activity, it possesses carbohydrate-binding capacity and participates in inflammatory responses, tissue remodeling, and immune regulation. At the mechanistic level, CHI3L1 can activate multiple signaling pathways such as STAT3, MAPK, and PI3K/Akt, and bind to various receptors including IL-13Rα2 and CD44, thereby promoting cell survival and resistance to apoptosis.
