0.5 pg/mL

Range

7.8-500 pg/mL

Reactivity

Rat

Cat no : KE20019

Synonyms

Il2, interleukin 2

Product Information

KE20019 is a solid phase sandwich Enzyme Linked-Immuno-Sorbent Assay (Sandwich ELISA). The IL-2 ELISA kit is to be used to detect and quantify protein levels of endogenous IL-2. The assay recognizes rat IL-2. An antibody specific for IL-2 has been pre-coated onto the microwells. The IL-2 protein in samples is captured by the coated antibody after incubation. Following extensive washing, another antibody specific for rat IL-2 is added to detect the captured rat IL-2 protein. For signal development, HRP-conjugated antibody is added, followed by Tetramethyl-benzidine (TMB) reagent. Solution containing sulfuric acid is used to stop color development and the color intensity which is proportional to the quantity of bound protein is measurable at 450 nm with the correction wavelength set at 630 nm.

Background Information

IL-2 (Interleukin-2) is an interleukin, a type of cytokine signaling molecule in the immune system. It regulates white blood cells (leukocytes, often lymphocytes) that are responsible for immunity. The major sources of IL-2 are activated CD4+ T cells and activated CD8+ T cells. IL-2 mediates its effects by binding to IL-2 receptors which are expressed by lymphocytes. IL-2 signal can be transduced by 3 different signaling pathways: JAK-STAT, PI3K/Akt/mTOR and MAPK/ERK pathway. IL-2 plays a role in regulating the adaptive immune system by controlling the survival and proliferation of regulatory T-cells, which are required for the maintenance of immune tolerance. It also promotes proliferation of activated B cells and subsequently immunoglobulin production. IL-2 has been used to treat immune-deficiencies like HIV, and induce immune response against tumors.
