Product Information

KE00299 is a solid phase sandwich Enzyme Linked-Immuno-Sorbent Assay (Sandwich ELISA). The IL-13 ELISA kit is to be used to detect and quantify protein levels of endogenous IL-13. The assay recognizes human IL-13. An antibody specific for IL-13 has been pre-coated onto the microwells. The IL-13 protein in samples is captured by the coated antibody after incubation. Following extensive washing, another antibody of biotinylated specific for IL-13 is added to detect the captured IL-13 protein. For signal development, Streptavidin-HRP is added, followed by Tetramethyl-benzidine (TMB) reagent. Solution containing sulfuric acid is used to stop color development and the color intensity which is proportional to the quantity of bound protein is measurable at 450 nm with the correction wavelength set at 630 nm.

Background Information

IL-13 is a cytokine secreted by T helper type 2 (Th2) cells, CD4 cells, natural killer T cell, mast cells, basophils, eosinophils and nuocytes. Interleukin-13 is a central regulator in IgE synthesis, goblet cell hyperplasia, mucus hypersecretion, airway hyperresponsiveness, fibrosis and chitinase up-regulation. It is a mediator of allergic inflammation and different diseases including asthma. IL-13 has effects on immune cells that are similar to those of the closely related cytokine IL-4.
