Product Information

KE00231 is a solid phase sandwich Enzyme Linked-Immuno-Sorbent Assay (Sandwich ELISA). The Caspase 1 ELISA kit is to be used to detect and quantify protein levels of endogenous Caspase 1. The assay recognizes human Caspase 1. An antibody specific for Caspase 1 has been pre-coated onto the microwells. The Caspase 1 protein in samples is captured by the coated antibody after incubation. Following extensive washing, another antibody specific for human Caspase 1 is added to detect the captured human Caspase 1 protein. For signal development, HRP-conjugated antibody is added, followed by Tetramethyl-benzidine (TMB) reagent. Solution containing sulfuric acid is used to stop color development and the color intensity which is proportional to the quantity of bound protein is measurable at 450 nm with the correction wavelength set at 630 nm.

Background Information

CASP1(caspase-1) is also named as IL1BC, IL1BCE and belongs to the peptidase C14A family. It is a cysteine protease that regulates inflammatory processes through its capacity to process and activate the interleukin-1-beta (IL1B), IL18, and IL33 precursor proteins. The active caspase-1 can increase cellular membrane permeability and intracellular calcium levels, which facilitates lysosome exocytosis and release of host antimicrobial factors and microbial products(PMID:21804020).
