Background Information
GORAB, also known as Scyl1BP1, is a protein that localizes to the trans-side of the Golgi apparatus and plays a significant role in intracellular trafficking and protein glycosylation. It is composed of a central coiled-coil region that is responsible for Golgi targeting, likely through interactions with small GTPases Rab6 and Arf5. GORAB is considered a member of the golgin family of coiled-coil Golgi proteins, which are involved in vesicle tethering. GORAB has been implicated in several cellular functions. It has been proposed to function as a transcriptional activator for neurite outgrowth, as a modulator of MDM2 ubiquitylation impacting p53 levels and apoptosis, and has been shown to play a role in centriole duplication and ciliogenesis.
