Background Information

FOXP2, also named as CAGH44 or TNRC10, is a 715 amino acid protein, which is a transcription factor containing a polyglutamine tract, a zinc-finger motif, and a forkheadDNA-binding domain. The role of FOXP2 in this neurodevelopmental disorder suggests that mutations in FOXP2 could cause other neuropsychiatric disorders. FOXP2 is the first gene linked to human speech and has been the target of positive selection during recent primate evolution. FOXP2 exists several isoform with the range of molecular weight 70-80 kDa and 40-50 kDa (PMID: 15056696; PMID: 29360038).
