Background Information
COX7B, also named as Cytochrome c oxidase subunit 7B, mitochondrial, is a 80 amino acid protein, which belongs to the cytochrome c oxidase VIIb family. COX7B protein is one of the nuclear-coded polypeptide chains of cytochrome c oxidase, the terminal oxidase in mitochondrial electron transport. COX7B plays a role in proper central nervous system development in vertebrates. COX7B as a terminal enzyme in the mitochondrial respiratory chain (oxidative phosphorylation OXPHOS), catalyzing the electron transfer from reduced cytochrome c to molecule oxygen and plays a role in eye development.
